AI-Powered No-Parking Violation Detection for a University

Project Overview

  • We developed an AI-driven parking violation detection system for a university spread over 2,550 acres with multiple departments and parking zones. The system uses camera feeds from designated No Parking areas to detect unauthorized vehicle stops and instantly notifies the concerned department to take timely action—helping maintain discipline and order across the campus

Problem Statement

  • Managing parking violations across such a vast campus was becoming increasingly difficult. The key challenges included:
  • Vehicles parked in unauthorized zones disrupting movement
  • Lack of real-time monitoring in remote or less-visited areas
  • Manual monitoring was inefficient and unsustainable at this scale

Solution

  • We implemented an AI-powered camera monitoring system integrated with custom detection models. These models were installed on cameras covering No Parking areas and worked as follows:
  • Continuously monitored live camera feeds
  • Detected when a vehicle was stopped in a no-parking zone
  • Triggered automatic alerts to the relevant department for response
  • Key Capabilities:
  • Real-time vehicle detection in restricted zones:
  • Department-specific notification system
  • Scalable solution deployable across multiple campus zones

Process / Approach

  • N/A

Technical Workflow

  • Document Upload: Users drag and drop multiple documents into the system
  • Camera Integration: AI models connected to existing CCTV infrastructure in key no-parking zones
  • Violation Detection: Fine-tuned object detection models identify unauthorized parked vehicles
  • Notification System: Automated alerts sent instantly to the designated department via internal systems or communication tools
  • Data Logging: All violations logged for future reporting or review

Challenges Faced

  • Managing varied lighting and weather conditions in outdoor camera feeds
  • Ensuring accurate detection in crowded scenes
  • Streamlining notifications to the correct department without delays

Impact

  • Improved discipline and parking compliance across the campus

  • Reduced need for manual patrols and human monitoring

  • Quick response times from departments for action on violations

  • Scalable and low-maintenance solution for long-term use
